MEMORY 6 | "The job is done."
EARNED: Nafuna, Day 76
TAKEN: TBA
WITNESSES: TBA
❚ the memory itself ➙
Chapter 28, pages 2-4 here for a higher resolution.
❈ Chelsea's escape from the Jaegers is shown as a flashback on another page, but it would be confusing to include in this memory so I'll detail it here: Gebaze had some pet cats, so she transformed into one and blended in with them until she could slip back to the Night Raid base.
❚ what is learned ➙
● No names are blurred!
● This is a short, but significant memory for multiple reasons, the most prominent of them being that this is the first remembered use of the Teigu called Gaea Foundation that Chelsea carries with her everywhere, as well as the first remembered appearance of the Jaegers.
● Chelsea can transform into both people and animals using this device. The transformations that occurred (a maid, a cat) were immediate and painless.
● There was no regret or guilt to accompany killing the corrupt official, but neither was there pleasure. It was a necessary job that she had the skills and the emotional/psychological makeup to carry out.
❚ what this means ➙
○ She's a confirmed killer, but her reasons are also readily apparent; Gebaze was an awful, irredeemable man that needed to die so that the suffering of those beneath him could be eased.
○ This will be a memory she'll be really nervous about the rest of her team seeing, because as much as she tries to convince herself that she's not emotionally attached to them, she is and would be unhappy if they hated her over her profession.
○ However, she's come to trust Ratatoskr enough that she doesn't think they'll use this memory against her as blackmail.
○ Remembering an assassination job will hammer home something she's known for awhile but hasn't fully accepted, which is that Ratatoskr definitely isn't like Night Raid. She's not among fellow killers that are united in their chosen purpose and committed to walking the shadowy path of assassination......but she still has a team, they're still her team, and it's not soft or wrong to think of herself as one of them. The world she's in has changed, the people that surround her are different, so she has to (wants to) adapt.
